Pinot Blanc
Pinot Blanc is a lighter-colored natural mutation of Pinot Gris. Our sources for this fruit are a two acre block of Meredith Mitchell Vineyard and a half acre block of Freedom Hill Vineyard. After pressing the fruit, the juice is fermented in neutral French barrels. The neutral casks give us rich textures without imparting new oak that would detract from the bright fruit/mineral/floral profile of the wine. The new wine remains in barrel with the original yeast and is not racked until bottling.
Washington/ Oregon Chardonnay
The blend for this bottling is 73% Celilo Vineyard from White Salmon, Washington and 27% Del Rio Vineyard from Gold Hill, Oregon. Celilo provides the acidity and high-toned aromatics while Del Rio provides plush textural qualities and bass notes. Celilo Vineyard is a unique vineyard situated on a 1,000 foot bluff overlooking the
Columbia River in the Columbia River Gorge. It lies on the south face of
Mount Underwood, which is currently an inactive volcano. The soil is pulverized
basalt, extremely porous and loose, which promotes deep rooting. The vineyard
was planted in 1983. Unlike the Chardonnay grown in the hot eastern desert
of Washington, this is a much cooler site. As a result, the fruit retains
more acidity and the wine displays a clean mineral character with an expansive
texture.
